For over fifty years McMillan farm (dairy farm registered as Aryshire) has produced apples and syrup. Linda’s grandfather, Alexander McMillan, settled in Franklin in the 1800s and bought the farm for his son Wilbert in 1904 for a sum of $ 200.00. The latter raised his family, three girls and a boy. That boy, Ray, had three children. His youngest daughter Linda married Gary and bought the 75 acre family farm in 1999. Today, the farm has six different orchards of mature trees.  It was interesting to learn that they use minimal pesticides, however Canada imports apples from other countries that continue to use banned pesticides on the apples we are buying. It was exciting to hear that we’ll now be able to shop direct from Linda & Gary through local markets, and if we all organize an order, they will deliver to Chateauguay. Depending on the season, they offer 36 different types of apples, apple jellies, maple syrup and peaches and cherries are to come. I’ll be looking ford to apple picking in September & October during U-Pic season.

Thank you Gary & Linda for a wonderful & informative presentation.
